This article explains how to use GA4's Realtime reports. By reading this article, you will understand what you can do with GA4's Realtime reports and how to use them specifically. It also includes troubleshooting tips for when Realtime reports are not reflected, so please refer to it.

What are Realtime reports?

Realtime reports are reports that allow you to check the activity of users on websites and apps in Realtime. In GA4, it takes about 4 to 8 hours for data to be reflected, but by using this feature, you can analyze user information from the past 30 minutes and immediately improve marketing measures based on the results.

Items that can be checked in real-time reports

Realtime reports provide the following information:

  • Users in last 30 minutes
  • Users by source, medium, and campaign (user acquisition): which channels users are coming from
  • Users by audience: what kind of users are visiting
  • Views by page title and screen name: which pages are being viewed
  • Event count by Event name: what kind of events are occurring
  • Key events by Event name: what kind of conversions are happening

How to use Realtime reports

To use Realtime reports, select "Reports" > "Realtime" from the navigation menu on the left side of GA4.

How to utilize Realtime reports

Real-time reports can be utilized in situations like

Initial check for promotions

You can check the initial movement of promotions that aim to achieve significant results in a short period, such as limited-time plans or promotions using SNS.

Content analysis

You can check the response to newly published pages or pages that have been renewed.

Verification of measurement codes

You can verify whether the measurement codes are functioning correctly on sites and apps.

Applications of Realtime reports

Comparison Feature

By clicking "Add comparison" in the upper right corner, you can compare data between different segments. For example, you can compare the actions of users by age group or the effectiveness of different advertising campaigns.

User Snapshot

By clicking "Show User Snapshot" in the upper right corner, you can view detailed behavior data of individual users. This includes the devices used and events triggered.

Notes and Troubleshooting for Realtime reports

Notes

  • App data is sent in bulk, so there may be delays in displaying the data.
  • If there are no active users, the data will not be displayed.
  • The update frequency of real-time reports is less than one minute, so it is not a complete real-time reflection.

Troubleshooting

If none of the above apply, there may be an issue with the GA4 settings. Ensure that the necessary settings for data acquisition are complete.
